Living in an RV has taught us that some of the best moments happen between point A and point B—those quiet stretches of road where nature decides to put on a show just because you’re passing through.
These photos were taken early in the morning, when the world is still waking up and everything feels softer, calmer, more magical. If you’re not a morning person, trust me… it’s worth trying every once in a while. There’s something special about watching the day unfold before everyone else is even out the door.

If you’re not into slot canyons, just scroll on by. But if squeezing through narrow sandstone corridors gets your heart racing, buckle up because this 8-mile loop near Goblin Valley is slot canyon heaven. In some spots the tight walls had me questioning my life choices (and maybe that breakfast burrito as well). Little Wild Horse Canyon doesn’t mess around—some passages are barely 3 feet wide, and we had to do the sideways shuffle between towering walls. Yes, water may be involved. Take a buddy if you’re a member of the short squad as there were multiple places that I needed either help up or help down from that tall guy I hike with. Bell Canyon on the return? Slightly more chill, but still delivering those dramatic desert vibes. Walls striped in orange, red, and cream will make your camera work overtime. This is kind of adventure that reminds you why you love the desert.
⚠️Safety First: Go counterclockwise (Little Wild Horse first—trust me), bring more water than you think you need, and DO NOT hike this if there’s any chance of rain. It was an epic day on the Navajo Rocks loop in Utah. Doug started what was supposed to be a mid-length ride on one of the top 3 intermediate trails in the area. About a third of the way through, he linked up with a crew from Boise calling themselves the “Lucky Fu$kers”. He ended up riding a 17-mile loop - the whole day turned into something way bigger. When you’re riding with good people, sharing stories at rest stops, crushing snacks, and cracking jokes on the trail, you just keep going. After the ride, we finished the day with a drive at our next stop. Goblin Valley State Park. Dead Horse Point - where the views are dramatic, the cliffs are massive, and the only thing dying were my quads. Just kidding. Well only about my quads. There were definitely no dead horses. We did have some epic views including the Potash pools shimmering below and the Thelma & Louise overlook serving full-on movie drama. This relatively flat hike is atop the canyon so it’s key to do the out and backs to the overlooks for pretty canyon layers. With Lone Mesa dispersed camping as a base, Doug took a short ride to the Bartlett Pictograph Art Panel. The next morning he mountain biked the Chisholm Trail. We have 2 hidden gems for you today! These sunset pictures were taken at a Lone Mesa boondocking spot. (More about this area soon). We spent our day hiking to Corona and Bowtie arches, which are, outside of Arches National Park, some of the most accessible and prominent arches to be found. Just off Potash Road near the Gold Bar camping area, the trail climbs from the Colorado River up onto the slickrock benches of Bootlegger Canyon. We crossed railroad tracks, followed cairns across open rock, and tackled a short scramble section with a ladder and safety cable (but easily do-able). Our next Moab adventure took us out to the rock art sites along Utah 279. Prehistoric petroglyph panels etched into the cliff faces fascinate us. Why do so many look alien? It’s weird to stand just a few feet from art that’s been here for hundreds — even thousands — of years. It quickly turned into a hot afternoon, but Doug couldn’t resist a walk up the Poison Spider trail which advertised dinosaur tracks. Both red rock areas are classic Moab: dusty, wild, and waiting for you to explore. Moab rarely disappoints. #moab #petroglyphs #roadtrip #dinosaurprints #utah

The slick rock area near Moab is basically an adult playground. Scrambling up boulders, mountain biking trails, and dirt biking and off-roading. It’s all fair game in this area! Camped at the Juniper Campground in Sand Flats near Moab — the perfect spot for adventure right outside our door. Doug hit the trails with two solid mountain bike rides: Falcon Flow, and then Eagle Eye + Hawks Glide, part of the 5 Raptor Trails network. These routes wind through junipers, over chunky rock sections, and along stunning canyon edges — all rated intermediate but packed with challenge and views. We were even caught a little rain and a rainbow to top it off. Wrapped up our stay with a short hike on the Juniper Trail that starts right from the campground — quiet, scenic, and a great way to stretch the legs after riding. #mtb #mtblifestyle #moab #sandflats #raptortrails #desert #rainbow #rvadventures #rvtravel #visitutah

- [ ] While there’s a lot of great camping along the Colorado River just outside of Moab, when it’s too hot we always look for higher ground and found the perfect spot to hang out for a weekend - the Manti-La Sal National Forest. The contrast is striking. Down below the river cuts through stark, red-rock canyon walls and up above, the aspens explode in gold and amber. The high country lakes are crystal clear and streams trickle along great hiking and mountain biking trails. While the desert floor hit 90°, we were in the mid 70s enjoying fall colors. #moab #utah #aspen #mantilasal #rvtravel #rvadventures #nomads

The Grandstaff Trail near Moab is an out and back canyon hike that ends at a natural bridge / arch known as Morning Glory. This sandstone rock formation isn’t the only unique rock you’ll see on the trip as the canyon trip is full of beautiful, water-sculpted sandstone. It’s a relatively short hike but shade is limited, there is poison oak and you’ll need to cross a shallow creek about 10 times. There are also a few sections of light scrambling. We went apple picking, out on a sunset cruise of the Sound, to see a Dambo Troll, to the Suquamish Museum, to Bainbridge Island, and Tumwater Falls.
