A Quick Ride Through Historic Dubuque

Dubuque, Iowa is a picturesque riverside city rich in historical heritage.  It is also Iowa’s oldest city (founded in 1833).  Dubuque is known in the state for successfully transforming from its industrial roots in mining and lumber to a diverse economy fueled by tourism, education, healthcare and manufacturing.

We did not have have time to stop, but enjoyed touring around town in the RV.  Here’s my tribute to Dubuque.

WHERE THE RIVER KEEPS TIME

Bridges stretch with iron grace,
Spanning time in this old place.
The Mississippi sways and bends,
A timeless road that never ends.

Where miners toiled in hills so steep,
And riverboats carved the waters deep.
A city born of grit and steam,
Built on labor, built on dreams.

Brick-lined streets, a story told,
Steeples sharp and rooftops bold.
Where trollies climb up slow and grand,
Tracing lines of hard worked land.

We race on through the bends and breaks,
The road still calls, our journey waits.
But Dubuque, you've quite the view
Holding history, you forge anew.
