Carrying a long history

Of black gold feeding frenzy

  1. Oil was discovered in Tulsa in 1901 and by 1997 Oklahoma produced more oil than any other state any any other country in the world.  This led Tulsa’s moniker “Oil Capitol of the World”.
  2. Oil money led to a boom in the city which is why it now has one of the largest curations of Art Deco architecture in the country.  Side note – we are not an Art-Deco experts so if some of the buildings pictured below aren’t technically Art-Deco, don’t write us.  We won’t be modifying this post.  We simply enjoyed strolling downtown to see some interesting architecture.
  3. Many towns claim to be the beginning of America’s famed Route 66, but Tulsa is the official start.
  4. Standing on a small concrete circle in downtown Tulsa, called “The Center of the Universe” you can experience an acoustic phenomenon.  When you make a noise, it will echo back to you louder than the original sound, and people outside the circle can’t hear it.
