From Louisville KY we were headed to Lexington and while we have become state capitol city geeks, I promise you, heading through Frankfort was the most direct route. It was!
Louisville had also peaked my interest in bourbon. We’d already been to Maker’s Mark (near “the Bourbon Capitol of the World®”, click for post here), Old Forester, Angels Envy, and Evan Williams (click for post here), but this barely scratched the surface of those on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail roadmap which identifies 18 signature distillery and 23 craft distillery participants throughout the state! Since it’s difficult for either of us to be underachievers and Frankfort is home to Buffalo Trace (one of Doug’s favorite bourbons), we stopped.
Frankfort is also the capital of Kentucky, so we meandered over to it before heading out of town. I’m still kicking myself that we didn’t go inside. Now, we will never know now where to place it on our list of best capitols. LOL!
