Sailin’ Through Annapolis

We only had part of an afternoon to drive through Annapolis MD, but it was nice to do anyway.

Annapolis is synonymous with the US Naval Academy and it could have been because we were there in late May (maybe graduation), but the city was dominated by young men with short haircuts and dress white uniforms.

Surprisingly, the Naval Academy isn’t the oldest college in town.  St. John’s College (previously King William’s School) was founded in 1696!

Annapolis is also Maryland’s capitol and I’m sad we missed seeing the state house.  It has a relatively small, walkable downtown center with lots of colonial architecture that’s dominated by red brick buildings.  Restaurants and docks line the shores of the harbor at its center.

We drove through downtown and wandered to a small beach for a view of the water.  We then walked Bailey through a charming little neighborhood before heading to Lums Pond State Park in Delaware.
