We have yet to visit anywhere in BC that isn’t scenic and the next few days were no exception. We continued our drive of the Sea to Sky Scenic Byway and then transferred to the Cariboo Highway before heading west.
COMPLETING THE SEA TO SKY SCENIC BYWAY
The Sea to Sky Scenic Byway goes through, but does not end, at Whistler, but stay a few days in Whistler, it’s worth it before continuing (more info linked here). The rest of the drive veers inland towards the town of Lilooet and then to Cache Creek. Despite not having the coast alongside, you won’t be disappointed as there’s a waterfall stop at Nairn Falls that has quite unusual flow and the rest of the drive is packed with gorgeous views – chartreuse deciduous trees fill in the gaps between dark forest green pines, calm lakes and excited rivers break up the view, and heavy mountain peaks overgrown with lush vegetation crowd the roadway until Lilooet. Just past town, the valley opens up for a brief period until entering Marble Canyon Provincial Park, the pretty Pavilion Lake and Cache Creek.
CARIBOO HIGHWAY
From Cache Creek, we headed north on Highway 97, also known as the Cariboo Highway. We drove this from Cache Creek to Prince George. In the stretch past 100 Mile House and 150 Mile House, we saw several pretty ranches. About ½ way to Prince George we stopped for the night to boondock at Blue Lake North Recreation site, near Williams Lake, before continuing through Quesnel and into Prince George.
Despite the bouts of rain and the long drives both days, we had good roads, pretty scenery, and great boondocking spot.
