Watkins Glen – A Gorge-ous State Park!

We’d just hiked in Rickett’s Glen State Park (post here) in Pennsylvania witnessing waterfall after waterfall (we say 19 in all) two weeks before we arrived at Watkins Glen State Park in New York’s Finger Lakes Region.  The Gorge Trail at Watkins Glen runs over, under and along the park’s 19 waterfalls by way of stone bridges and more than 800 stone steps!

The large individual falls at Rickett’s Glen are different from those at Watkins Glen which has more cascades, pools, and  horsetail falls wedged between the tight spaces that make up this jagged, beautiful, deep canyon.  Our out-and-back hike was just under 3.5 miles.

I could go on and on about the beauty of the falls, the construction of the path, its stone bridges, and the perfect lighting that day that isn’t as well represented in these photos as I’d have liked, but instead I’ll leave you with these photos and a nice quote to match.

water is one of her favorite brushes.

We rather expected the pretty scenery and falls in Pennsylvania, but Upstate NY continues to surprise us!
