When Your Hometown Is Unrecognizable

Is the picture above NapaSonoma? Paso Robles?  No, no, and no.  This is not even in California!  It’s Newberg, Oregon – the small town where Doug spent many of his formative teenage years.

We’ve been here a couple of times (more info here) but as with my hometown of Fairplay, CO, it’s always weird when you grow up somewhere that has since completely changed.  What Doug describes as mostly paper mills and farmlands is now covered in vineyards and wineries.

We can’t afford to retire in Napa or Sonoma so maybe Oregon has something to offer after all?
